Asier Urrutikoetxea of the charity Born to Learn has sent me the following info about their new budget hostel in Moshi:
“The idea of Karibu Hostel was conceived to support the NGO called “Born to Learn” as all profits are donated directly. Born to Learn was created after 5 volunteers from different countries got together to start an educational project in the community of Newlands in Moshi, Tanzania.
The mission of Born to learn is to provide education to all those kids that are not able to attend school due to lack of economic resources. We teach them how to read, write and count and we put them into schools as soon as they reach the appropriate level or we find sponsors. At the moment we have 35 kids sponsored in public schools and another 30 in our project waiting to get into school someday soon.
Karibu hostel will happily receive volunteers and backpackers. We offer free volunteering to anyone who wants to assist in our programs and spend time with our kids, teaching them English, Math, Arts, Music and Sports. We also welcome travelers who arrive in Moshi to climb Mount Kilimanjaro or go on Safari in Serengeti or Ngorongoro.
By staying with us people will be helping our kids that would otherwise be on the streets doing nothing. The kids now have a chance to be someone in the future and will be able to help their families.
Karibu Hostel is located in a very secure area, only 5min walk from the city center of Moshi, Tanzania. It is situated very close to the Arusha roundabout, in front of Peace Park in a big white building, the first building on the right on Nsilo Kwai street.
We offer accommodation in shared four-bed dorm rooms, where people can make close friends or a twin-bed double room for those who want more intimacy.
A fully furnished hostel with all facilities will make the stay comfortable. There is security 24 hours, parking, hot water, lockers and very nice environment with other travelers and volunteers from all over the world.
It has a huge garden with mango and banana trees where everyone can relax, play sports or pick up fruit in season. The garden also supplies many vegetables for hostel meals.
We do have also chicken that provide very tasty eggs everyday.
There is also the possibility to watch movies, play cards or read books in our great living room combined with a spacious terrace, where it is nice to chat with others for hours while looking at the moon and stars.
The rates vary according to the length of stay and meal inclusion.
For overnight guests and those staying less than 2 months the price is 9 euros per night, 12 euros with breakfast included and 15 euro with breakfast and dinner included.
For those staying over 2 months the price is 14 euro per night, including breakfast and dinner.
