Dar es Salaam updates

Econolodge, off Libya Street. 28,000Tsh, double with fan. Excellent central location and very good value. Rooms always spotless. Some are hotter and airless but many are relatively cool. One can upgrade to A/C. Breakfast is simple fruit and bread with eggs extra. Very good value for the price. Many places to eat simply and cheaply in surrounding area though most do not serve alcohol. Protein bar round the corner from the Chefs Pride in Jamhuri street is a soulless but A/C spot to slake ones thirst and the Peacock Hotel has a western style basement bar where you can eat. Dar lacks a good spot in the centre to watch the sunset however we did see a possible bar on top of the new Holiday Inn on Maktaba Road. The Red Onion is an open-air restaurant on top of shopping centre and serves excellent food and also alcohol.

Al-Basha has unfortunately relocated to ground floor of Heritage Motel. Always enjoyed their selection of Lebanese food but they are in smarter more roomier dining area — no longer street tables!
